If you’ve ever visited a traditional storage unit, you know that there are are a lot of things about self-storage that make it a nightmare, but, in our opinion, the absolute worst thing about visiting a storage facility is the kind of people you meet there. You know these ‘storage people’ we’re talking about, the types you won’t find anywhere other than next door to your storage unit.
Fortunately, now there’s MakeSpace. We do all the schlepping so you don’t have to spend any time around these ‘storage people.’ Here are a few of the characters that you won’t have to meet in a dark hallway thanks to MakeSpace:
1. Lovers
There have been rumors about secret storage unit love nests for as long as we can remember. We’ve always told ourselves that it was just an urban rumor, but our worst fears were confirmed when a Tennessee Police Chief and his mistress were caught in their makeshift love nest last December. Walking through a storage unit, knowing that behind anyone of the metal doors there might be something illicit taking place doesn’t sit well with us.
2. Spankers
This is one of the craziest stories we’ve ever heard, but apparently the owner of a self-storage facility in Ohio actually whipped one of his customers with a belt over a late payment. If you thought it was just the tenants you had to watch out for, think again.
3. Overnighters
Many 24 hour storage facilities in the city have a serious problem with unwanted overnight guests who sleep in their units, or even in the hallways. Not only is it dangerous to have strangers loitering in the halls, it puts your valuable belongings at risk. MakeSpace is super secure; we share our facility with retailers like Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren, so you know your things are safe.
4. Stinkers
Okay, so this isn’t exactly a person, but there are way too many stories about people using their storage units to keep perishable food items. Even food supplier Sysco has been caught storing meat and produce in storage spaces. That can’t smell good!
5. Drug Dealers
Walter White isn’t the only drug dealer who’s used a storage unit to keep money and merchandise; at one Florida self-storage facility, the owner was actually running drugs through the business. In California, cops found 168 pounds of marijuana in a storage unit, along with a man who was apparently living there.
6. Murderers
Anyone who’s seen the TV show Dexter knows that storage units can also be used by killers as a place to store bodies. This is another one that we had chalked up to urban legend until we started doing some research. There have been a lot of bodies discovered in storage units!
At the end of this terrifying list, we’re pretty glad that MakeSpace exists. We do the schlepping, so you don’t ever have to worry about running into someone sketchy. You’ll save some money and time. Get MakeSpace today.
