Alexandria has come a long way from the days of being known as Belhaven and Hunting Creek Warehouse. Today, it’s one of the biggest cities in Northern Virginia (NOVA). Many of its residents commute to and from Washington DC for work. 

Alexandria’s neighborhoods are Old Town, Rosemont, The Berg, Arlandria, Del Ray, North Ridge, and West End. There are various communities and small cities, such as Groveton and Mount Vernon (which are part of Fairfax County), that exist outside of the actual city of Alexandria, but use an Alexandria address.

The history of the Alexandria Public Library, which holds annual lectures by outstanding scholars, is fascinating. And whether you want theater, incredible deals in small, locally-owned boutiques, sporting events, restaurants, museums, or special yearly or monthly attractions, you can find it in Alexandria. For example, Old Town offers small shops against a waterfront backdrop. Del Ray, a neighborhood “Where Main Street Still Exists,” will also give you something quite unique with its array of restaurants, boutique shops, farmers market, events, and America’s legendary music hall, The Birchmere.
