South Philadelphia has one heck of a resume. The Philly Cheesesteak, Philadelphia’s most popular export, started here. It’s a source of great argument and passion as to who makes it better, Geno’s or Pat’s, but you can be sure the line will be equally long at both. The South Philadelphia Sports Complex is home to six professional sports teams.
The neighborhood also has an extensive Italian Market, a sprawl of nightclubs, a nationally renowned theatre, tattoo parlors, stately homes, and enough character to power a generator. Those who live here are used to it but visitors often need a moment to adjust. It’s a dense, vibrant section of Philadelphia life after all. And all are welcome.
